Red

Our church held a G.O.O.D. sale on Saturday. Get Out Of Debt Sale. Participants brought crafts, baked goods, and all the goodies that were the result of their decluttering. The object was to apply their profits to their debt. The sale was a huge success. Not only did we make money, we promoted our church, and we had so much fun it was like having a huge party!

One of the benefits (or a downside, if you are of the negative persuasion) was the swapping amongst friends. I came home with a fair amount of new treasures. One of them was this mirror. (Thank you, Bonnie!)

It's shape reminded me of the 60's and the color of the 80's. But, I saw an opportunity to buy another can of spray paint ($1.12 at Wal-Mart) and bring it up to date! Interestingly, the mirror pops out just like the glass in a picture frame. So, without even having to tape or cover anything, a few minutes later I had a new mirrored tray -- just in time for Valentine's Day!

Visible Love

With the day quickly approaching, I've been adding a bit of Valentine decor here and there whenever the inspiriation hits. With all the red and pink hearts everywhere, my thoughts have turned to love.

Love is not merely a feeling, it is an action. This past week, I read the phrase, “Work is love made visible.” It really struck a chord with me.

It truly does take love to make the work good. When work is done in love, whether the work is easy or hard, the love is made visible to those around us. Sometimes, it will be our love for God that will provoke us to work. Sometimes, it will be our love for the recipient themselves. But, the best work is that which is prompted by love.

When we work, if love flows out of us, it will show. Look around. Does your love show? Does your love of God show up in the care you give to His children and His house? Does your love of your family show in a tidy home, clean clothes, and nutritious meals? Does your love of your husband show in the graciousness with which you serve him?

If, when others look at your surroundings – whether at home, at your job, in your car, at church, or at play, they cannot see work, they will quite naturally assume there is no love.

Love without work is empty. Work without love is bitter. But, when love and work blend together, we will cultivate joy – both within ourselves and in our loved ones.

Inaugural Ball Gowns

Apparently, the world has been waiting for a peek at Michelle Obama's Inaugural Ballgown. I'm not sure about what anyone else thought, but I think there might have been just a tad of disappointment after its debut. No one was ooh-ing and ah-ing. Oh, well.

It did, however, spark my interest to check out a few other other gowns from the past. Here are Eleanor Roosevelt and LadyBird Johnson posing in their finery. I wonder if Michelle did the same.

To test your First Lady Ballgown knowledge, take this little fun quiz. I only got 4 out of 8, though if I would have gone with my first instincts, I would have done much better! Let me know how well you do!

Pink Laundry

I'm home.
Spent all day putting away Christmas.
I usually put away all the decorations on January 7.
This year, in anticipation of a new baby,
I had cleared the house of all Christmas-y decor
except for the living room.
I figured we only needed one room to celebrate Epiphany.
But, since little Saraa decided to make her
princess entrance on that day,
the decor has stayed -- just waiting for me to come home.

Now after a good day's work,
I'm sitting here thinking about that precious little angel
(pictured here with both her Mommy and Nana
on her first day going to church)
and missing

cute little piles of pink laundry.

Goodnight Warrior

Diego received a new bedtime devotional for Christmas. To say he likes it is an understatement.

Dressed for battle.

Vanquished foe.

Definitely more than a conqueror.
